The prices of drumsticks are generally reasonable, ranging from 5 Euros for the most budget-friendly models to 18 Euros for those designed for higher performance. There are also heavier models specifically designed for marching drums. As we've attempted to explain, there aren't necessarily better models than others (except perhaps for the more professional brands), but rather models that are better suited to your individual style and the genre you intend to play. The experience you gain through practice will help guide your choices.
In this section, you'll find everything you need to play your drums, including drumsticks from top brands like Vic Firth, Vater, Ahead, Zildjian, as well as beaters and sticks for electronic drums. Which drumsticks should you buy? If you're a beginner, this is likely a question you've asked yourself. There are many models of drumsticks and many brands, although the most renowned and widely used in both professional and non-professional circles are Vic Firth, Vater, and Ahead, to name a few.
Drumsticks vary in terms of materials, tip type, thickness, weight, and consequently balance. They are classified with letters and numbers such as: 5A, 5B, 7A, etc. The letter indicates the weight of the stick: A is used for lighter sticks, while B denotes somewhat heavier models. S is used for even heavier models.
The number, conversely, indicates the thickness of the stick: numbers like 2 are found on thicker models, while 7 signifies a thinner stick. Even within the same models, the balance of sticks can differ between different brands, so a 5A from VIC FIRTH Drumsticks will likely differ from a 5A Vater.
If you need to choose your first drumsticks, when in doubt, opt for intermediate models like 5A or 5B. Experience and practice will then guide you towards different choices or, perhaps, confirm your initial choice. However, drummers often have a variety of models at their disposal, depending on the style they intend to play or the volume they wish to produce.
