At first glance, these instruments might appear to be accordions, but in fact, they operate on the same principle in terms of sound production due to the bellows and the required air movement. However, they are entirely distinct instruments when we examine the types of tuning and the harmonic and melodic possibilities they provide.
Diatonic accordions are tuned according to preset diatonic scales which can be one or two. The keyboard is typically button-based, and the basses are determined by the key in which the instrument is tuned. They are commonly used in folk and traditional music.
