Strymon Zelzah Modulation Pedal – In-Depth Tour with Sound Designer Pete Celi
Learn about Zelzah ► https://www.strymon.net/product/zelzah/ In this video, Strymon co-founder and senior DSP engineer Pete Celi takes you on an in-depth tour of Strymon's latest modulation pedal: Zelzah ======================= Way Back Machine. Step on Zelzah, play one chord, and you’re instantly taken back to a world of classic phaser tones as they were always meant to sound, perfectly voiced, with tons of vibe. Vintage 4-stage and 6-stage phasing with controls that allow seamless transitions to vibrato, gorgeous flanging and chorus, and new sounds never heard before—all instantly musical with great tone all the way across every dial. Two Effects At Once. Zelzah is actually two different phasers, side by side in one pedal. Zelzah’s 4-stage side gives you a wide array of classic tones ranging from phasing to vibrato and even unique and expressive envelope phaser sounds, while the 6-stage side provides phasing, flanging, chorus, and all points in between. Dial in a chorus on one side and barber pole phaser on other, or a phaser on one side and tremolo on the other. Use the two sides independently or together in a variety of configurations. Zelzah may become the only modulation pedal you keep on your board. ======================= Chapters: 00:00 Overview 00:40 Six Stage Phaser Intro 01:17 Six Stage Depth 02:03 Six Stage Speed 02:53 Six Stage Resonance 03:43 Six Stage Voice 05:49 Flanger 06:42 Chorus 07:01 Six Stage Stereo 10:11 Four Stage Phaser Intro 10:36 Four Stage Classic Sweep 12:19 Four Stage Mix Control 13:55 Phasing with Gain 15:27 Four Stage Stereo 16:33 Four Stage Barber Sweep 18:57 Four Stage Envelope Sweep 20:54 Both Sides at Once

"Unified Vibe" by Pete Celi At full Depth the 4-stage Classic sweep extends into the lower part of the frequency spectrum creating a pulsing low end. "Take 6" by Pete Celi All inputs to the 6-stage phaser are graced with a syrupy coat of goodness. "Flutterby" by Mark McCrite A fast Speed and Mild Resonance, a stereo offset LFO creates a trippy Leslie-like effect. "Timeless" by Ethan Tufts Electric pianos are a perfect match with the Classic Sweep. Zelzah responds beautifully to the Wurlitzer's timbre. "Half a Chorus" by Pete Celi In Split mode, a chorus on the Right channel creates a stereo effect against the dry (bypassed). Left channel. "Falling and Falling" by Pete Celi A shallow flanger-voiced vibrato feeds a slowly falling Barber Sweep phaser for a hypnotic effect. "Captain Zelzah" by Ethan Tufts By placing El Capistan before Zelzah, the echoes experience the mild phasing effect produced by low Mix and low Depth. "Broken" by Pete Celi Mild Resonance enhances the frequency peaks of the 6-stage phaser at minimum Depth. "Slowdrive" by Mark McCrite A slow and deep sweep works on the harmonics created by Sunset. "Wurly Wurli" by Ethan Tufts A higher mix lends a quality of vibrato along with the phaser for this Wurlitzer track. "Little Clone" by Pete Celi At maximum Voice and high Depth, the LFO produces a noticeable pitch variation to the chorus tones. "Instant Funk" by Gohan Ruiz The Envelope Sweep produces input-responsive phasing for funky comping. "No Rush" by Pete Celi The Depth and Voice settings place this slow modulation in between flanger and chorus, while the stereo offset creates a huge sound field. "Don Coriolis" by Pete Celi This parallel combination of a stereo phasey vibrato on the 4 stage and a stereo chorus on the 6-stage produces a complex Leslie effect. "Electric Mystery" by Pete Celi The signature sweep of a classic flanger is hearkened with the Voice knob in the 1:00 position. "Keep Up" by Ethan Tufts A lower Depth setting limits the frequency excursions but maintains the sweep in a sweet spot as this lively Wurlitzer track demonstrates. "Oh Faux" by Pete Celi A classic stereo chorus faux-leslie is achieved with lower Depth and higher Speed settings. "Shave and a Haircut" by Pete Celi This Barber Sweep shows the fatness of the Barber phaser at lower Depth settings. "Marshall Law" by Pete Celi The 4-stage Classic feeds a heavily overdriven Marshall for harmonic richness. "Humongous" by Ethan Tufts A slower Speed sets the motion for this deep vibrato-phase effect on a huge guitar tone. "Relevant Resonance" by Pete Celi The Strong Resonance adds movement and shifting harmonics to send to the overdriven amp. "Jean Luc Picardy" by Ethan Tufts The Voice knob adds a sense of space to the 6-stage phaser as it enhances the Wurlitzer tones. "Swamp Grass" by Gohan Ruiz Full wet Mix creates a pleasingly pure phase-vibrato effect. "Wah'd You Say?" by Pete Celi Low Depth tames the response of the envelope phaser, keeping it the lower fatter frequencies, adding some dynamic punch into a distorted amp "Barbaric Trem" by Pete Celi Full wet Mix, Minimum Depth, and the Barber Sweep create a trem-like effect as the LFO makes its rounds. "Riverslide" by Pete Celi With Riverside creating lots of harmonics, the 4-stage phaser can be dialed back to create motion without overwhelming the input. "Creature Comfort" by Pete Celi The Strong Resonance of a 6-stage phaser/flanger gets further motion as it feeds into a 4-stage phasey vibrato. "Looks Like This is the End" by Pete Celi The beauty of the enhanced 6-stage algorithm is displayed as the pure phaser is stretched in time and takes on a spacious quality.
